The Increasing Cost of Truvada (PrEP) is Leading to an Increase in the Contraction of HIV A Policy Alternative
Main Article Content
Abstract
There is a growing population of individuals who cannot afford the prevention treatment, PrEP, for HIV infection. Those insured with private health care are able to afford this treatment as it is taken from deductibles. Public insurance is at no help to these individuals due to not having certain plans and policies that help them afford this life saving treatment. Policy alternatives are needed to give those who cannot afford PrEP a better way of life, and needed, to emphasize the fact that healthcare is a right and shouldn't be infringed upon with the cost of prescription medication. This policy alternative takes a look at different policy reccomendations to change the way public insurance holders are able to receive this treatment. Data was collected through the U.S Census Bureau, the U.S Congressional Libray and the Center for Disease Control.
