The Journal of Student Research at Indiana University East
Vol. 7 No. 1 (2025)
Welcome to the 2025 edition of the Journal of Student Research at Indiana University East. This year, the journal has seen a number of changes, not the least being the retirement of Associate Librarian Sue McFadden, who shepherded the journal during its first six years. Associate Librarian of Instruction and Outreach KT Lowe has stepped in as the managing editor.
This year marked an experiment. This past Fall, a section of HON-H303 was dedicated to producing the journal. Eight students were tasked to review submissions, issue suggested corrections and select articles for publication. The majority of what you will read in these pages is the result of their careful decisions.

"Composition courses are important spaces for student writers. Alongside other introductory courses, composition introduces students to university-level expectations for writing and lays a foundation for the kind of thinking and writing upon which future courses in the major build. To see students thoughtfully and critically engage with writing tasks in these spaces is exciting, and, as Director of the Writing Program and Chair of the English Department, we are delighted to showcase some of the best writing that appeared in Indiana University East’s writing program during 2023."

This volume exhibits the dedication of featured Indiana University East’s students as they worked diligently to research topics in their disciplines, provide personal narratives on their learning, and/or create visuals to showcase learned material. It was exciting working alongside students in the editing process as they finalized their work for publication. I marvel at the passion these students put into their writing and research, and I know this drive will be an asset in their ventures beyond IU East." Emmy Price, MA, Graduate Editor

Editor’s Note
I am delighted to announce the 2021 issue of the Journal of Student Research at IU East (JSRIUE). In my recent work as a graduate student editor for this year’s issue of JSRIUE, I have had the pleasure of working with students and their work while learning more about fascinating topics students have researched. Robinson’s piece, “The Biochemistry of Attraction,” particularly stands out as interesting—discussing some of the different aspects of attraction that drive humans to seek love.
Despite the struggles of the COVID-19 pandemic, many Indiana University East students and faculty pulled together (albeit virtually) to produce this year’s magnificent publication and collection of student research. I continue to promote the Journal of Student Research at IU East to students—encouraging current IUE students to submit their research, scholarship, and creative activity for future publications of JSRIUE.
