Submission Guidelines

Guidelines for the Preparation of Electronic Manuscripts commissioned by TMR

The Medieval Review follows the Chicago Manual of Style (14th Edition) in most matters of editorial practice.

The average length of reviews is about 1500 words, but we require that all submissions be between 800 and 2500 words in length.  If, for some reason, your review does not fall between those limits, please inform the editors.

Your review should be e-mailed to TMRL@indiana.edu.  Please do not submit your review on this site. The review should be submitted in machine-readable form, either as text pasted into the body of an e-mail message or as an e-mail attachment.  If you are sending an attachment, we prefer a Microsoft Word document; if you use a program different from Word, please save your file in "rich text format/RTF" (usually an option in the "save as" menu).

If you quote directly from the book, please include the page or page numbers of the reference, in parentheses after the quote, as follows.  (56)

Please provide bibliographic information for the book you are reviewing. When possible, the invoice for the book will be included inside the front cover to make this information easier for you to obtain.  In some cases, the invoice cannot be included and bibliographic information may then be obtained from individual publishers’ websites, or from online book retailers.

In addition to the usual bibliographic identifiers like author, title, publisher and place and date of publication, please include the number of pages, the price of the volume and the ISBN number.  Please put the book's title in italics.

Finally, please include your name, your affiliation, and your preferred email address below the bibliographic citation. This is for the convenience of interested scholars who wish to follow up on items.

The entire header of your review should look like this:

Author lastname (editor or translator as necessary), author firstname.  Title.  Series.  Place of Publication: Publisher, Date of Publication.  Pp. xxx.  Price.  ISBN #.
