Abstract

Historians and native Indianans alike have long sought the origin of the word hoosier. The mystery around the term’s origin prompted three librarians with the IUPUI University Library Center for Digital Scholarship to examine how hoosier appears in the text of newspapers from across the country, dating from 1836 to 1922.
