Submissions
Author Guidelines
Two paper copies of the manuscript should be sent to the Editor, Indiana Magazine of History, Ballantine Hall 844, 1020 E. Kirkwood Ave., Indiana University, Bloomington, IN 47405. In addition, submit an electronic version as an email attachment to dbakken@indiana.edu.
Format
Submissions should be sent in Microsoft Word or a compatible program. Format the document in a standard 11- or 12-point font, double-spaced, with one-inch margins and with footnotes (Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition format). Include a separate cover page with your full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address. Do not include your name on the first page of the manuscript; do not reveal your identity in footnotes.
Length
Articles should not exceed 14,000 words. Essays and research notes should not be less than 3,000 words and should not exceed 5,000 words.
Abstract
All articles should include a descriptive abstract, which should not exceed 150 words. Submit the abstract on a separate page from the body of the article.
Illustrations
The IMH encourages authors to include illustrations whenever appropriate. The author will be responsible for providing the illustrations in a form that is suitable for publication; for obtaining permissions; and for paying any permission, use, or processing fees involved with the illustrations. Each illustration must be submitted electronically as a .tiff or .jpg file. Images must be of high-quality and resolution, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
Previous Publication
Do not submit a manuscript that has been published or one that is currently under consideration for publication elsewhere (print and/or online).
