The Journal of Education in Muslim Societies (JEMS) is a bi-annual, peer reviewed journal focusing on policy, practice and other issues related to the use of education to improve people's lives in Muslim societies. The Journal, published in partnership with the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) and Indiana University Press, is part of IIIT's Advancing Education in Muslim Societies initiative, which holds to the theory that education should be about more than taking in new facts; it should enrich the whole person.

The Journal welcomes papers on subjects related to the role of education in Muslim societies. Papers submitted for consideration should be limited to 8000 words, including all references, tables, figures, etc. JEMS also welcomes reviews of books that touch on timely topics and shed light on the challenges facing practitioners and other stakeholders. Reviews should be no more than 1500 words.
