Overview

Chiricú Journal is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal focusing on Latina/o humanities. Published twice per year by the Indiana University Press in conjunction with the Latino Studies Program at Indiana University, it is available electronically (by subscription) or per issue by print-on-demand. We invite submissions of critical scholarly articles as well as creative work, including poetry, short stories, essays, photography and graphic illustrations. Submissions may be in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Deadlines are August 1 and February 1 each year.

Formatting Requirements

All submissions should be double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, including quotations, notes, and the bibliography, if applicable. Page numbers should be included in the upper right corner.

Feature articles and essays must be written in compliance with the most recent MLA or APA guidelines. The preferred length of articles is 6,000-10,000 words, including the bibliography and notes. Academic essays must include an abstract of 150-250 words.

Book and film reviews by solicitation only, should be 500-1,000 words. Exceptions will be considered for review essays.

Interviews may be up to 8,000 words in length.

Commentaries and editorials can be 1,000-2,000 words.

Creative submissions should not exceed 10,000 words.

Images should be submitted as JPG, TIF, or EPS files, preferably of at least 300 pixels per inch. Authors submitting images with text should indicate within the text where the image should be placed by inserting the designation “(fig. 1),” “(fig. 2),” etc. at the end of the sentence referencing the image. Please also provide any caption text in a separate document.

Submission

To ensure a double-blind review process, all articles are submitted electronically via Open Journal Systems. Please follow the instructions at this link to submit. To guarantee anonymity, your name must not appear anywhere on your paper.

If a submission is selected for publication, a Consent to Publish Agreement must be signed prior to publication.

Please direct questions to John Nieto-Phillips (Editor) at chiricu@indiana.edu; or phone (812) 855-8589.
