Synthesis and Electrochemical Analysis of Several Triruthenium Alkylidyne Carbonyl Clusters
Main Article Content
Abstract
Metal-containing polymers and related materials have been the focus of much attention recently due to their potentially useful electronic, optical, and magnetic properties. We report here the synthesis and electrochemical analysis of several transition metal cluster compounds having the general formula H3Ru3(μ3-CY)(C0)9_nLn (n = 0, 3; L = PPh3) (1). Of particular interest are cluster derivatives in which the apical substituent, Y, is an organic 7t-system or a metal-containing fragment as these clusters are possible precursors to metal cluster-containing polymer systems. The synthesis of H3Ru3(μ 3- C-allyl)(C0)9 (2), H3Ru3(μ3-C-allyl)(C0)6(PPh3)3, H3Ru3(μ3-C-C6H4CH3)(C0)9, H3Ru3(μ3-C-C6H4CH3)(C0)6(PPh3)3, H3Ru3(μ 3-C-C6H4CH3-Mo(C0)3)(C0)9 and H3Ru3(μ3-C-C6H4CH3-Mo(C0)3)(C0)6 (PPh3)3 is reported along with infrared spectral characterization and cyclic voltammetric analysis. In addition, we report on the attempted synthesis of the clusters H3Ru3(μ3-C-indenyl)(C0)9, H3Ru3(μ3-C-stilbenyl)(C0)9 and H3Ru3(μ3-C-[Ru11(bpy)3])(C0)9.
