The Relationship Between Social Approval And Divorce Adjustment
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study analyzes a 1999 survey (N=42) to examine the relationship between social approval and divorce adjustment. Social approval was evaluated relative to three dimensions of social approval: parental approval, approval from close friends, and internal acceptance. Each of these dimensions were further explored relative to implicit and explicit expressions of approval: the perception of explicit approval of close friends, parents, and self, and the approval implied through the divorce history of close friends, parents, and self. Divorce adjustment was measured in variables of current weekly depression and preoccupation with the former spouse.
