Mingling at the Market
Main Article Content
Abstract
Consumers like to buy from farmers markets because they wish to support farmers in the community. Belief of fresher food and the idea of supporting local farms draw people into the market. Is there more to just the products being sold at the market that keep the consumers returning? We set out to find the answer to this question by conducting interviews and doing onsite observations. The sample consisted of vendors and customers. Not only were the vendors friendly with the customers, they were also triendly with each other, despite being competition. The social interactions among customers as well as vendors and others working at the market, play a very vital position in the functioning of the market.
