We welcome all student submissions to Tributaries. You are welcome to submit more than once, and we encourage you to create a Submittable account of your own too! We thank you for sending us your work, and urge you to keep writing and creating!

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • Stories and Nonfiction: We consider prose of up to 8,000 words in length, and we prefer manuscripts that are double-spaced in 11 or 12 point font with numbered pages.  Online submissions should be formatted as either.pdf or .doc files.  Translations are welcome.

Poems: Send only 3-6 poems per submission.  Do not send more than 4 poems if longer than 3 pages each.  Translations are welcome.

Visual Arts:  Paintings, photographs, comics and drawings are welcome.  In lieu of originals, please send high resolution digital images of work (JPEG or PNG).  Visual works must also be publishable in black and white but, when funding allows, may be published in full color.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, PDF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
