I would like to thank Prof. Bouchard for her many kind words. However, she has unfortunately assigned me the wrong gender. Not only that, I have not been "studying the charters of...Bégard for some forty years," as she asserts in the first sentence. As explained in my introduction there was a long interruption in my work on Bégard. I also have published and given papers in several other fields and, for the past two years have been working on another major project, the edition of the charters of Beauport abbey, a Premonstratensian establishment mentioned in the review. Thirdly Bégard, far from being a house the existence of which "no one would be more than dimly aware of," was one of the most important abbeys of Medieval Brittany and is certainly worthy of a thorough, detailed, self-standing study.
