Using 3D Printed Cars and Makeshift Wind Tunnel for Teaching Motion to Elementary Students

Abstract

Linear motion and balanced/unbalanced forces are a staple of teaching and learning physics. The underlying principles involved in these ideas are key elements of Indiana academic standards from earliest grade levels. We report on the use of a modular 3D printed car and a classroom-made wind tunnel for teaching balanced and unbalanced forces in an elementary setting. The cars are easy to produce and have the capacity to generate consistent results when tested in the wind tunnel. The files required to 3D print these cars are included with this article.
