Abstract

This article describes a prairie restoration project, which happened during the 2013-2014 school year, at Thurgood Marshall STEM High School, Dayton Public Schools, Dayton, Ohio.The service-learning project of planting a prairie was part of a new, senior enviornmental capstone course, which had a strong placed-based component focused upon the Miami Valley of Ohio. The learning sequence is discussed in detail day by day, along with commentary, content/standards covered, reflections, resources, web links, and a picture. With the information in this article, educators interested in placed-based, outdoor learning for either biological and/or environmental science, or other areas, can replicate the completed work.
