Author Biography

Kaden Jelsing , Smith College

Kaden Jelsing is a historian of the North American West, Indigenous North America, settler colonialism, and the environment. Jelsing is currently a Lecturer in the American Studies department at Smith College, where he teaches courses at the intersection of Native American and Indigenous Studies and Environmental Studies. He is currently working on a book manuscript, tentatively titled “Sovereign Futures: Indigenous and Settler Prophecy in Nineteenth-Century American Northwests”, that looks at how the distinct future-making projects of settler and Indigenous communities interacted and critiqued one another while articulating and evolving radically different relationships to the other-than-human world.
