Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it under consideration by another journal.
     
  • The submission file is in MS Word and follows the SDH Template
  • All the references are mentioned in the paper and are ordered alphabetically according to the surname of the first author
  • The citation style follows strictly the example mentioned in the template
  • Where available, URLs for the references are provided

Author Guidelines

1. Articles must be submitted in MS Word format using the required template (download the template) and must include the following elements, in this order:

  • Title
  • Author(s) with institutional affiliation(s)
  • Abstract (no more than 300 words)
  • A first-page footnote giving any funding sources and the full affiliation of each author, including postal address and email address
  • Keywords (no more than five)
  • Body of the paper. Sections and subsections should be numbered consecutively (1, 1.1, 1.2, and so on)
  • Figures, illustrations, diagrams, and tables, placed at appropriate points in the body of the paper, numbered consecutively in order of citation, and accompanied by captions and, where applicable, credits. In addition to the versions embedded in the paper, authors should preferably upload the original image files in the Artwork section of the submission form
  • Acknowledgments (if any)
  • Author’s contributions (optional)
  • References

2. Footnotes should be avoided, or kept to a minimum where they are unavoidable. For citations, authors must follow the SDH Stylesheet. Only works cited in the body of the paper or in the footnotes should appear in the reference list. Authors are encouraged to use a reference manager (Zotero, EndNote, or similar) to keep their citation style consistent across the text, footnotes, and references.

3. Authors are encouraged to publish interactive 3D models where these are appropriate to the topic. The journal maintains its own Sketchfab account, on which any mesh or point cloud supplied by the authors can be hosted. Models should be submitted in the 3D Model section of the submission form, either as a ZIP archive containing the .obj, .mtl, and texture files, or as a single .ply file. A link to a model already hosted by the authors on a third-party service is also acceptable. Links to models should be placed within the body of the article and referred to in the same way as a figure or diagram.

How this works: to submit their work to the journal, authors grant Studies in Digital Heritage a nonexclusive license to distribute the work according to a CC BY-NC 4.0 license. Once an article is published, anyone is free to share and adapt its contents—provided only that they do so for noncommercial purposes and properly attribute the shared or adapted information.
