As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.

New submissions are due by the beginning of October for the Fall issue and by the middle of February for the Spring issue. Submissions should be sent as attachments (.doc or .docx) to primary@indiana.edu. The editorial staff will create an IUScholarWorks account for authors whose work has been accepted for publication.

Undergraduates interested in submitting a piece of their original work should format it in the following manner:

- Essays should be no longer than twenty (20) pages, excluding the title page and bibliography.

- Authors should format citations according to Chicago style. For guidance, visit this website: http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html

- The title page should list the title of the work as well as the author’s name, university, and class (i.e. freshman, etc.). An abstract of 100 words maximum should also be on the title page.

- The essay should appear in 12-point Times New Roman Font and be double-spaced. It should also have 1-inch margins, with pagination centered at the bottom of the page.
