Blank</a><br />Editor, <em>New Directions in Folklore</em></p> https://scholarworks.iu.edu/journals/index.php/ndif/announcement/view/31 Wed, 19 Jan 2011 23:08:05 -0500 Call for Papers: American Folklore Society Meeting https://scholarworks.iu.edu/journals/index.php/ndif/announcement/view/30 <p>The theme of the 2011 Annual Meeting of the American Folklore Society (Bloomington, IN, Oct. 19-22) is “Peace, War, Folklore.” The LGBTQA Section of the AFS plans to present a series of panels on such topics as the interior struggle to accept one’s sexuality, coming out, homophobia, cyberbullying—in short, artistic expressions of every sort that reflect conflict and homosexuality.<br /><br />This initiative is sponsored by the LGBTQA Section of the American Folklore Society, with the co-sponsorship of the Women’s Section, the History and Folklore Section, and the Politics, Folklore and Social Justice Section.<br /><br />If you are interested in presenting a paper or organized panel at AFS related to this theme, we invite you to send us abstracts by February 28. Community scholars and students are especially encouraged to apply. We welcome theory pieces, ethnographic studies, and all permutations thereof. Papers may address, but are not limited to, perspectives relating to theory and practice in allied disciplines, history, social justice, and gender.<br /><br />Our intent is to mount panels of four papers each.<br /><br />Please e-mail your 500-word abstract (or in the case of organized panels, a 500-word governing statement about the panel and a 250-word abstract for each paper) by February 28 to pxstewart@salisbury.edu and josephpgoodwin@comcast.net. A reply to materials submitted by this deadline is guaranteed by March 15. We will be returning as an open access, peer-reviewed e-Journal in September 2010 with Volume 8, no. 1/2!</p><p>In addition to our revitalization efforts, we are in the process of formatting and re-publishing all of the back issues of the journal from its previous incarnation (1997-2003). Users wishing to locate these back issues of New Directions in Folklore (as well as archived issues of the new journal upon their publication) should click on the "1997-2003" tab below the NDiF logo) Starting with Volume 7 and working backwards, we will be adding past issues frequently, and the entirety of the old NDiF publications are expected to be available online by June 2010.</p><p>We look forward to having you as readers and participants in a vibrant online community of folklore scholarship. Moreover, we hope that you will visit our journal site as it continues to evolve. Between the publications of this journal and the NewFolk listserv, we hope that a revitalized discussion of folkloristics in the twenty-first century will emerge.
