Heather A. Horst, University of California, Berkeley

Heather A. Horst is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Institute for the Study of Social Change, University of California, Berkeley. She is author (with Daniel Miller) of The Cell Phone: An Anthropology of Communication (Oxford: Berg, 2006), a book that explores the specific implications of the cell phone and the cell phone industry in rural and urban Jamaica. She has also published several journal articles on the relationship between transnationalism, place, and belonging. Her recent work on family life and technology in Silicon Valley is described in a recent essay published on the Material World weblog.
