Abstract

Pivotal response treatment (PRT) is a naturalistic behavioral intervention strategy used in the education of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to improve self-initiations, motivation, and response to multiple cues. Students with ASD generally exhibit social, communicative, and behavioral deficits. Implementation of PRT into the general education classroom can improve social interactions and generalization in students with ASD. By addressing and preventing maladaptive behaviors with the implementation of PRT, teachers can serve as an early line of defense in preventing the incarcerations of students with disabilities.
