Left Behind: A Case Study of an ELL Immigrant’s Journey with Literacy
Main Article Content
Abstract
The research presented in this paper in the form of a case study centers the experience of an adult immigrant from Mexico who arrived in the United States with no prior English knowledge to answer the question: How do ELL high-school graduates experience situations requiring high levels of literacy, and what outcomes does this produce? This case offers a lens into the journey of an immigrant adult in the United States, demonstrating the lasting impacts of the literacy achievement gap on ELLs long after high school graduation.
