Abstract
The Spins is the autobiographical comic about my experiences with vestibular migraines. Less than one percent of the population has vestibular migraines and, to my knowledge, there is not currently a comic on this topic in publication. Using Scott McCloud’s instructional dialogue technique and the language of comics (icons to amplify meaning, cartoon format for increased reader identification, gutters that indicate time and motion, and panels that allow for simultaneous visual presentations and direct focus), I was able to tell this story in a way that simple text could not. Themes of isolation and hope emerge from this scientifically based narrative.
