As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Submissions accepted for review from the following  practitioners, scholars and disciplines:

JGET will publish original, peer-reviewed manuscripts, videos, etc., relating to counseling, mental health, K-12 education themes, teaching and learning, higher education, social work, public health, global health, public policy, community psychology, multicultural education, social justice, sociology, social sciences, behavioral sciences, music therapy, art therapy, play therapy, child and adolescent development, etc.

JGET welcomes transdisciplinary manuscripts from practitioners, scholars, academicians, counselors, social workers, public health personnel,  teachers, researchers, graduate students, administrators, and policymakers on a variety of topics and content areas as well as educational issues, evidence-based practices, and topics of social, emotional, and educational significance.

Manuscript

The manuscript must be double-spaced throughout, including references, and prepared in Times New Roman, twelve (12)-point font.

The manuscript must not exceed fifteen (15) pages, including tables, figures, and references. Exceptions must be approved by the JGET Editor.

The manuscript’s first page must include three (3) keywords and an abstract not to exceed one hundred and fifty (150) words.  

A contact information page must also be submitted with identifying information, names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, websites, etc.

The manuscript must be prepared in English.

The manuscript must be prepared in a professional manner and consistent with the most recent APA publication style manual.  

Manuscripts submitted must be original contributions that have not been previously published (in whole or substantial part) nor are being concurrently considered for publication by another publisher. A cover letter stating these conditions should accompany the submission.

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically using word processing software. Acceptable formats include Microsoft Word (doc /docx). Acceptable electronic formats for artwork (figures, tables, graphs, etc.) include: JPEG, PDF, Word, and Excel.

Manuscripts should be formatted for printing on standard 8 1/2 x 11-inch paper with 1-inch margins, double-spaced (including quotations and references), and prepared in Times New Roman 12-point font size. Titles, headings, and subheadings should be in upper- and lower-case fonts.

A separate cover sheet should provide the author’s full name, organization or institutional affiliation, mailing address, phone number, and email address, and the corresponding author should be identified. The author’s name should not appear on any other pages of the manuscript. It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to notify the journal editor of changes in address, organization, or institutional affiliation occurring during the review process. The reviews are blind.

Tables and figures should be placed in a separate file, and need not be double-spaced. Tables should only be used when appropriate and should include only essential data. Figures should be camera ready. Indicate the location for tables and figures in the text in boldface, enclosed in brackets, on a separate line.

The author is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all references. References should be double-spaced and follow the specifications of the latest edition of the APA publication manual. The author is also responsible for obtaining permission to use copyrighted material, if required.

All authors must submit a Turnitin plagiarism checker report (i.e. Turnitin) along with your manuscript,  to the Editor in Chief.  Please inform the editor if you do not have access to such a tool.

Photos or artwork must be camera ready. The acceptable electronic format is jpeg of at least 300 dpi. Authors should never assume that material downloaded or extracted from the Internet may be used without obtaining permission. It is the responsibility of the author to obtain permission, which should accompany the manuscript submission.

JGET Nuggets: Features brief informative tidbits, views, and opinions on hot topics, current events/issues, counseling policies, educational policies, public health policies, interesting readings, and other areas that impact social-emotional education and the social determinants of an individual’s life course. The information, views, and opinions tweeted in this department reflect those of the author.

Papers submitted to for entry in the JGET Nuggets section of the JGET are limited to 350 words and are generally solicited by the editor.  Persons interested in submitting an entry to the JGET Nuggets section should make inquiries. Include in the subject line, “ JGET Nuggets.”
