Student Retention Initiatives in Strategic Planning
Main Article Content
Abstract
Colleges and universities rely heavily on the implementation of their strategic plans to address enrollment obstacles and enhance retention. Structured support initiatives - advising, mentoring, tutoring - are designed to boost student success. While these approaches are imperative to these efforts, the effectiveness could pose risk from internal inefficiencies and external pressures. Certain challenges such as demographic risks, population declines, and increased tuition present barriers that are beyond institutional control. This forces institutions to adopt reactive strategies which divert their resources and strain budgets. This paper examines the role of structured support programs in encouraging student success and improving retention rates. Specifically emphasizing the need for institution wide strategies that align with broader goals of the university. By adopting a unified approach, institutions can better direct their resources and focus to meet the diverse needs of their students while ensuring long term stability within their institution.
