Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The review has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided to the editor beforehand).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • The text is double-spaced and employs italics rather than underlining (except with URLs).
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

  • Remember, the goal of a scholarly review is to inform readers of the content, style, main argument(s), evidence, and overall feel of the work being reviewed, with attention to the contribution of the work and/or any concerns the reviewer may wish to identify.
  • If the reviewer's native language is other than English, we request the reviewer to seek an initial editorial reading from a native speaker of English.
  • We ask that reviewers avoid using footnotes if at all possible.
  • At the conclusion of your review, include your full name, current email address, and your current institutional affiliation. Also, please alert us if you would prefer your email address to not be published with your review.

Bibliographic Information

  • JFRR conforms to style guidelines of the Journal of American Folklore, the 17th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style, and Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary.
