MEASURING THE IMP ACT OF A YOUTH SUICIDE PREVENTION PROGRAM
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Yellow Ribbon Program, a suicide awareness and prevention program for teenagers, was introduced into the South Bend Community School Corporation by the Community Resource Center of South Bend in October of 1999. The purpose of this research project was to determine if a measurable impact of that suicide prevention program could be determined. The Director of the Community Resource Center and four social workers from the school corporation were given questionnaires and participated in individual interviews. Their answers and interviews revealed a parallel with results from other studies done across this nation. The evaluation of suicide prevention programs is done in the context of each community's own reality because there are no accepted standards and procedures. Networking between concerned individuals is at a minimum. The results of this research demonstrate that based on the procedures an impact could not be measured successfully. However, the results did demonstrate a community dedicated to suicide prevention and awareness.
