1959: A Progressive Look At Gender
Main Article Content
Abstract
The 1959 film Some Like it Hot examines preconceived notions and stereotypes about gender. It is believed that the truth of gender lies in the body, that gender, just like sex, is biological. Stemming from the correlation of sex and gender comes the notion that gender can be determined by appearance or the clothing one wears. Gender is not fixed and it is not innate. Instead, gender is an artifice that is socially constructed. Our gender is not determined by our sex, rather, we determine our gender.
