Submissions

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Submissions should be submitted directly to the editor at iusb.analecta.editor@gmail.com.

1. Manuscript preparation:

A. Submissions in writing MUST be sent as a Word-processed manuscript in a single document, 12 point font, Times New Roman. Prose should be double-spaced, but poetry can be single-spaced.
B. The author’s name, student ID number and e-mail address MUST appear on the first page ONLY of each manuscript unless it is a jpeg, in which, the author’s name, student ID number and e-mail address should be in the body of the email.
C. Please use IUSB email address
D. Manuscripts MUST be submitted as an attachment and not within the body of the e-mail.

2. Students should retain original copies of their work. Manuscripts are not returned.

3. Please use Analecta Submission, as the e-mail subject/title header.

Genre Rules

Poetry: 1 to 3 poems, maximum of 6 pages
Short Fiction: 1 story, or up to 3 flash stories; maximum of 3,000 words.*
Drama: 1 one-act or excerpt of full-length play or screenplay (no musicals); maximum of 20 pages*
Non-fiction Prose: 1 work of non-fiction, maximum of 3,000 words*
Visual Art: 3-7 maximum.
Comics: 3-7 standalone comics, or 1 complete strip*
*Works accepted may be excerpted.

*Any manuscripts submitted are automatically considered by the staff of Analecta, IU south Bend’s student-edited and student-written inter-arts magazine, for publication in its annual spring issue as well as the English Department’s Student Writing Awards.

5. Authors or creators publishing in Analecta affirm the following:

☐ I declare that this submission is my original work, and that it does not, to the best of my knowledge, infringe upon anyone's copyright.

☐ I agree that that [the journal] may, without changing the content, translate the

submission to any medium or format for the purpose of preservation.

☐ I grant to [the journal] the right to keep copies of my submission, and to translate it to any medium for future reproduction, distribution, and preservation.

☐ [Rights of subsequent publication: The [journal] acknowledges that the author may wish to publish work elsewhere at a future date. I recognize that I am able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the nonexclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book).

The author or creator of any work published in Analecta retains coyright.
