A problem in contrastive analysis

Abstract
The Contrastive Analysis Hypothesis (CAH) claims that the areas of ease and difficulty in second language learning correspond, respectively, to the similarities and differences between the native language (NL) and the target language (TL). Assuming that difficulty is reflected in terms of the errors that the learner makes, the CAH can be tested by examining utterances produced by a second language learner to determine whether the errors are explainable in terms of the differences between the NL and TL involved. To the extent that second langauge errors are explainded wholly in terms of the differences between the NL and TL, the CAH is supported.

This lets others remix, tweak, and build upon the Work non-commercially; although new works must acknowledge the original IULCWP publication and be non-commercial, they do not have to be licensed on the same terms.
