Abstract


In an earlier note (Zwlcky 1985: 'Elementary Phonology from an Advanced point of View') I examined the way Kenstowicz and Kisseberth (1979; hereafter K&K)treat, or rather largely fail to treat, the distinction between morpho-phonemic and allophonic rules and the dlstinction between nonautomatic and automatic rules. Here I take up (in the spirit of the previous article) the subject of their the automaticity Chapter 8, 'Rule Interaction', paying special attention to of rules.
