Abstract

Many children in bilingual U.S. households gradually lose touch with their heritage languages as English dominates daily life. Hi! Langee supports families in nurturing bilingual identity by weaving conversational practice into everyday routines. The app generates personalized prompts with generative AI, delivered as calendar reminders aligned to family schedules and interests. Parents who participated in the diary study and tested the app reported discovering new, natural opportunities to use their heritage language during games, routines, or downtime, while reminders helped keep practice top of mind.
