Announcement of Vol. 16 Issue 2 with a Special Section on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in Learning Design
Posted on 2025-12-18Dear IJDL Community Member,
We are pleased to announce the publication of Volume 16, Issue 2 of the International Journal of Designs for Learning (IJDL)! This issue includes a Special Section on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in Learning Design and our second collection of Short-Form (Quick Hit) Design Cases. This is our second and last issue of 2025, and one of our largest, with 30 design cases, as follows:
- Eight (8) Design Cases (long form/traditional)
- Sixteen (16) Design Cases (long form/traditional) for the Special Section on GenAI in Learning Design
- Six (6) Short-Form (Quick Hit) Design Cases
We sincerely thank all authors who have contributed to IJDL and the reviewers who, without their invaluable peer-review work, would not have published these high-quality design cases.
Co-edited by Dr. Victoria Abramenka-Lachheb (Boise State University), Dr. Javier Leung (University of Missouri), Dr. Rajagopal Sankaranarayanan (University of Texas at Austin), and Dr. Olgun Sadik (Indiana University Bloomington), and Dr. Ahmed Lachheb (University of Kansas), the Special Section on GenAI in Learning Design includes sixteen (16) Design Cases that describe how GenAI is being designed with, constrained, and interrogated across diverse learning contexts. These contexts include higher education, K–12, informal learning environments, professional learning, civic education, expressive arts, engineering, and open educational resource development. Rather than positioning GenAI as a miraculous or autonomous solution, the Design Cases foreground it as a facilitation tool, creative material, and site for critical inquiry within human-centered design practice. In the Editorial introducing this Special Section, the Editorial Team provides a rich analysis of these Design Cases and a sincere expression of gratitude to the 30+ members of the IJDL community (scholars, educators, and practitioners) who served as peer reviewers and contributed significantly to the publication of these 16 Design Cases.
Last, if you are on LinkedIn, we would like to invite you to follow the official IJDL LinkedIn page! We are thrilled to have this new online space to post IJDL news and updates and feature the innovative designs of IJDL community members!
Below is a list of the Design Cases for this issue. Please forward this announcement to those you feel would be interested.
We look forward to your contributions and continued support of this venue for scholarly research in designs for learning!
Kind Regards,
