History of the Title Optometrist and When the O.D. Degree Was First Conferred

Abstract

The history of the title optometrist is rarely discussed in the literature. This paper reviews some of the history of the title and when its use was adopted by the profession. A brief discussion of when the Doctor of Optometry degree was first conferred is also included.
