Abstract

The author served as an Army optometrist in Vietnam for one year in 1969-70.  He discusses his experiences providing optometric care in a combat zone and comments on how those experiences influenced his subsequent career in private practice.

Richard Powell, O.D.

Dr. Richard L. Powell served as an optometrist in the US Army following his graduation from Southern College of Optometry in 1968.  He has practiced optometry in Lincoln, Nebraska for over 40 years and has served the Nebraska Optometric Association in several roles, including as its president.
