History of the School of Optometry at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Abstract
The origin of the School of Optometry at Hong Kong Polytechnic University can be traced to the 1970s when the Institute of Medical and Health Care was founded. The overarching theme in the development of the program has focused on blindness prevention, therapeutic treatment and eye health education.This article details the evolution of the School from 1978 when a certificate course in Ophthalmic Optics was offered to 2012 when the Doctor of Health science Optometry Programme was founded.
