Abstract

A course about food and/as media is a powerful way to teach students about interdisciplinary research. Rather than focus on how to teach interdisciplinary research through food, however, here I outline how I encourage students to change their thinking about meat, alternative protein, and food cultures through the intersection of media and communication, cultural studies, and posthuman theory with experiential learning. I include examples of how I incorporate place-based and cooking activities during class as a way for us as a learning community to connect theoretical concepts, disciplinary perspectives, and ethical debates through the practice of everyday life.
