Abstract

This paper lays the groundwork for understanding the spatial configurations of Arab and Jewish children's folklore in Jerusalem. The goal is to discover how children's folklore interacts with physical and mental divisions in the city from the end of the British Mandate in 1947 until the first decade or the 21st century-roughly six decades corresponding to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Through archival and ethnographic research with contemporary children and adults, I aim to show how neighborhood planning, housing styles and municipal boundaries have affected children's sense of belonging in a divided city.
