Abstract
The life and work of János Horváth (an ethnic German whose original surname was Mayer) are emblematic of the transformations Hungary went through in the second half of the 20th century. His contributions to education, politics, administration, sport, music, local history, and "civil society" over seven decades will be sorely missed in the village of Tázlár
