CORRESPONDENCE WITH GEORGE TURNER CONCERNING TRANSFER OF ALL DATA FROM MAGNETIC TAPE - 2002 From: Ruth C. Engs [engs@indiana.edu] Sent: Tuesday, February 26, 2002 12:59 PM To: Turner, George W Cc: Engs, Ruth L. Clifford Subject: Re: Tape drive (fwd) Will get it on a less snowy day. I also put fortran programs on punched cards through the readervia the old CDC to tape in HPER basement. The old spss program and the 1975 file was on one of them. This one was probably thrown away at some point. I am still trying to find it on the tape you have resurected. Have been looking all morning. I talked to one of the kid consultants on help line and have path set up to easily transfer the tape from steel to csf. I'll do that as soon as I can find and extract the material I need. As you might remember my office was upstairs in HPER until about 5 years ago. It was a nice small family group in Wrubel computing then. No security, no locked doors, no spy cameras. You probably remember the day that Dwight brought his telescope and we all went out side to look at the solar eclipse on a projection screen. I miss those times. I do hope that one of the files is the programs for the old 1975 data. There is a trick to getting spss as a batch job so that you can look at the outfile. The young stats consultants dont know it. in case anyone asks it is spss -m & outfilename.out & On Sun, 24 Feb 2002, george wm turner wrote: > Good evening Ruth, > > I'll copy the data & programs first thing in the morning; it should > take me five minutes on my workstation with an x-windows editor. > > A space in the first column would be for printer carriage control; > the old fortran standard was that a space meant increment the > paper by one line.
