Issue 33, no. 1 is now available!
Posted on 2025-05-22We are pleased to announce the availability of the latest spring issue of PMER (Volume 33, no. 1) in print and through Project Muse.
In this issue, Estelle Jorgensen reflects on her time as editor of the journal from its founding to the present, expresses her hopes for its future, and welcomes the new editorial team as she steps back from her long stewardship of PMER. Appropriately for this transitional issue, the six articles, introduced by Geir Johansen and Alexandra Kertz-Welzel, are extensions and elaborations of a symposium held at the 2023 ISPME symposium in Oslo, Norway on new directions in music education philosophy and on its relation to the future of our profession “as seen from the vantage point of the 2020s.” The authors of these articles—Geir Johansen, Lauren Kapalka Richerme, Nasim Niknafs, Leonard Tan, Hannah Rinholm, and Øivind Varkøy—examine the issues of leadership, gatekeeping, internationalization, and academic freedom in terms of how they impact and are impacted by published writings on music education philosophy. Rounding out the issue are Lia Lonnert’s review of Paul Louth’s book, Unfreezing Music Education, and a memorial piece honoring Tom Regelski’s life and contributions.
