Reconceptualizing Education Transformation in Muslim Societies

Abstract
This article presents the empirical framework for an initiative that aims to contribute evidence-based knowledge on educational reforms and transformation that are authentic and sensitive to Muslim societies. The authors adopt a multidisciplinary approach to educational research that includes an emphasis on human development theories as well as social and emotional development and learning as essential in reform efforts. The article also presents a comprehensive approach to collecting evidence and interpreting results on advancing wellbeing that involves K-12 schooling, higher education learning along with educational personnel and leadership in formal and non-formal Muslim education settings. The uniqueness of this article stems from its grounding in localized cultural, religious and social contexts. This framing article will guide the empirical research of initiatives focused on reform of education systems by proposing policy recommendations and curriculum adaptations to promoting reform in majority Muslim societies.
