Perception of non-Yoruba Language Speakers on the Use of Dual Language Self Directed Learning Application

Abstract

The study focused on the investigation of non-Yoruba speakers’ perception of the introduction of dual language of Yoruba and English for self-directed learning of Yoruba language. 60 samples were used; 20 students and 40 different categories of workers were randomly selected. The research instrument used was a non-Yoruba speakers’ perception questionnaire on the use of dual language self-directed learning applications. The findings revealed no significant difference between the perception of students (non-Yoruba speakers), the mean = 3.33 and the different categories of workers, (SD = 0.58) on the use of dual language self-directed learning application. Perceptions of male and female subjects are equal (Mean = 3.33; S.D = 0.59). Hypothesis I: revealed the calculated (“t” value = 0.047 ) with (p-value = 0.112), thus, the null hypothesis is accepted. Hypothesis two revealed the calculated (t” value = 0.000) with (p-value= 0.1790) at 0.05 level of significance, the null hypothesis is accepted. Dual language self-directed application is viable for effective language learning.
