Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Images are provided in JPEG or TIFF formats.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point Garamond font with a one-inch margin.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Paper submission to the Journal is open to the public. However, authors whose paper(s) are submitted for publication, will be required to be current paid members of ALTA before their articles are published. In preparing the manuscript, follow the guidelines below:

  • Manuscript Length: Research articles should be between 6,000 and 8,000 words (a maximum of 20 pages, excluding references and charts). Book reviews should be between 800 and 1,200 words.

 

 

  • Abstract and Keywords: All research articles must include an abstract of no more than 200 words and a list of 5-7 keywords.

 

  • Anonymization: JALTA uses a double-blind peer-review process. Please remove all identifying information from the manuscript file.
    • Author details should be provided in a separate cover sheet, containing the manuscript title, full names and institutions of each author(s), their email addresses, telephone numbers, ORCID ID, and other relevant information. 

 

  • ORCID ID: All authors are required to provide a valid ORCID iD (https://orcid.org/ ) during submission to ensure accurate attribution, enhance research visibility, and support transparent scholarly communication.

 

  • Submission Method: All submissions must be made electronically as a Microsoft Word Upload to the JALTA submission portal.

Copyright Notice

By submitting a manuscript to The Journal of the African Language Teachers Association (JALTA), the author(s) confirm that:

  1. The work is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  2. All authors have approved the manuscript and agree with its submission to JALTA.
  3. The manuscript does not infringe any existing copyright, violate privacy rights, or contain unlawful or defamatory material.
  4. Upon acceptance for publication, the author(s) grant JALTA a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to publish the work in print and electronic formats, including archiving and distribution through third-party platforms.
  5. The author(s) retain copyright of their work and are free to share, reuse, and post the accepted manuscript (e.g., in institutional repositories or personal websites) with proper attribution to JALTA as the original place of publication.
