This report explores strategies to strengthen the visibility and engagement of Austy’s Bookstore, a woman- and veteran-owned independent bookstore located in Washington County, Indiana. Developed by students in the BUS-L 302 Sustainability Law & Policy course as part of the Indiana University Sustaining Hoosier Communities initiative, the report provides cost-effective and time-sensitive recommendations to enhance the store’s online presence and community connection. Key proposals include leveraging TikTok and other social media platforms to reach younger audiences, creating a cohesive brand identity through a redesigned website and consistent visual elements, and ensuring uniformity across all digital platforms. The report also emphasizes the sustainability benefits of supporting local bookstores and offers additional resources for marketing and community engagement. This report reflects original student work and recommendations created for Washington County through the BUS-L 302 Sustainability Law & Policy course. The ideas and opinions expressed herein represent the perspectives of the students and do not necessarily reflect those of the Sustaining Hoosier Communities initiative, the IU Center for Rural Engagement, Indiana University, or Washington County officials.
