Description
This report explores agritourism opportunities in Washington County, Indiana, with a focus on implementing an educational model through a proposed event called Agritourism Day. The document outlines different agritourism categories—such as food and beverage experiences, entertainment, direct-to-consumer sales, education, and recreation—and emphasizes the benefits of hosting a one-day, multi-farm event to increase tourism, diversify farm revenue streams, and strengthen community engagement. It provides detailed guidance on logistics, partner registration, event planning, and risk mitigation, while highlighting the potential for agritourism to foster connections between farmers and consumers and promote awareness of local agriculture.
This report reflects original research and recommendations developed by students in 180 Degrees Consulting for Washington County as part of the 2020–21 Indiana University Sustaining Hoosier Communities initiative. The views expressed are those of the students and do not represent the official positions of Indiana University, the Center for Rural Engagement, Sustaining Hoosier Communities, or Washington County.
