Abstract

The PURPOSE of this study was to compile and discuss descriptive data concerning the drinking patterns and problem of women college students. These unpublished tables were compiled by Ruth C. Engs and David J. Hanson from the 1984-5 data collection of an ongoing study. METHODS: The Student Alcohol Questionnaire (SAQ) was used for this study. This highly reliable questionnaire (r=.79) contains 6 items on drinking patterns, 17 items concerning possible consequences of drinking along with other scales. The questionnaire was administered to students during the 1984-5 academic year from 81 four year institutions of higher learning from every contagious state in the united states. This convenience sample of women contained 2104 subjects. RESULTS: The tables describes the alcohol consumption patterns and problems related to drinking by the demographic variables of Race, Year in School, College Major, Grade Point Average, Importance of Religion, Religious Background, and Region of the Country.
