Abstract
This study examined the benefits of support groups for parents of children with autism. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with two parents in order to collect data. A thematic analysis of interview data illustrated that the participants felt stressed out, anxious, worried, and lonely. The topics discussed in the support group were autism-related topics. Through attending support groups, the participants benefited from trainings and other parents’ experiences that resulted in changes in families’ lives. Participants felt more comfortable discussing autism-related topics with experienced parents.
