Abstract

At the request of Pedcor Investments, the Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology, Indiana University (GBL), performed a cultural resources survey of the proposed location for the Sycamore Springs Phase II housing development in Seymour, Jackson County, Indiana. A total of 4.5 acres was surveyed. The purposes of the survey were to 1) identify and document cultural resources in the proposed project area, 2) assess their potential for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and the Indiana Register of Historic Sites and Structures (IRHSS), and 3) make recommendations for the avoidance or preservation of significant or potentially significant cultural resources in the project area. Fieldwork was done on May 14, 1998 by GBL archaeologist Patrick K. O'Brien. No cultural materials were found. The GBL concludes that construction of the proposed housing will most likely not impact significant cultural resources. Cultural resource clearance is recommended for construction of the proposed housing.
