Abstract
NVivo is a popular software package for computer-assisted qualitative data analysis. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics of getting started with a new project in NVivo. Specifically, we will first review the key features and components of NVivo. Then, we will review how to import different types of data into NVivo, and how to capture attributes of files or cases using classification sheets. Then, we will look at creating, organizing, and applying codes in NVivo, and easy ways to then retrieve and review your coding. We will also review options for writing memos in NVivo, and, if time permits, different options for exploring your data and coding work with queries and visualizations.
No experience with NVivo is needed. Participants will be encouraged to follow along in NVivo using the provided sample data, or their own data. The workshop will be taught in NVivo for Windows 12, but researchers using other versions of NVivo should be able to follow along.
Video for this workshop is available upon request to the Social Science Research Commons.
