Abstract

At the request of ATC Associates, Inc. (ATC), the Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology, Indiana University (GBL) conducted a Phase Ia archaeological reconnaissance survey of the proposed location for a cellular communications tower immediately west of Green River Parkway, Butler County, Kentucky. The purposes of the survey were 1) to identify and document all of the cultural resources in the project area, 2) to evaluate any sites found with regard to their eligibility for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and/or Kentucky historical registers, and 3) to make recommendations for the protection of significant and potentially significant cultural resources. One previously unrecorded archaeological site, 15BT 117, was discovered during survey. Based upon information obtained through phase Ia archaeological reconnaissance-level survey, the GBL recommends that the site does not meet Criteria A, B, C, or D for inclusion on the . National Register of Historic Places. Specifically, the site is unlikely to yield information important for understanding Kentucky prehistory in the region, as described under National Register criterion D (see 36CFR60.4). The GBL recommends no further work for the site. However, if artifacts or cultural features, and/or if human bone, or bone that might prove to be human, are discovered during earth-moving activities, the State Historic Preservation Officer at the Kentucky Heritage Council should be contacted immediately.
